Tomasi Rd trail fixed!

Today the small section of trail next to Tomasi Rd gate was improved. Every year large boulders are moved from the trail to allow groomers to get through, but are there to block off summer ATV traffic. In the process of moving boulders, the loader had made deep 3ft ruts on the side of the trail. We hope to install a gate here to make the fall to winter transition much easier.

Right after the loader had finished moving the boulders

Water drainage is blocked off from the ruts. This may never freeze, and could be a potential hazard to groomers

Water can drain now that there's a proper ditch

Done! The trail is wider and safe to groom

River trail washout fixed and first rolling!

The washout on the River trail downstream from Dam hill was temporarily fixed. This will allow us to groom the river trail from Dam hill to Sidewinder hill this season.

This job was made much easier with our new John Deere 4044m

Logs were placed in the washout and then filled with dirt

Done!

We also rolled a single pass through the city side trails to check conditions. Many wet spots remain, and there is many exposed rocks and stumps. We will not be able to groom again until we get more snow.

New Tractor Arrives!

Thanks to the many contributors to the Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club's Capital Campaign a new John Deere 4044M with backhoe was delivered to the Hancock Bus Garage for us today. Fortunately the bus wash bay was open to rinse off the road salt and grime. We have a lot of preparation trail work to accomplish with it prior to the start of grooming this year. All of the contributors can take some special pride in this major step forward. We give a special tip of the hat to the John & Melissa Besse Foundation for their very generous gift that put the tractor acquisition over the top.
